Introducing the Convention Hotel
ALBACON aims to be a compact, friendly and fun packed event where fans can relax as much as possible. The Holiday Inn Glasgow Airport fulfils all our requirements regarding space, facilities and location, which also neatly provided us with the basis for our theme — Space Travel for Work & Leisure.
The Holiday Inn is the longest serving airport hotel, is the only one situated immediately adjacent to the terminal building and has years of experience as a conference venue for business and leisure. It is also a very popular stopover hotel for travellers breaking up their journey or catching early flights.
The facilities we will be using for ALBACON are conveniently located in one area on the ground floor — called The Academy — which will provide space for two programme streams, a modest dealer's room & art show, plus a small breakout room for workshops etc.
In the public area on the ground floor, there are plenty of comfortable seating areas, where informal meals and café drinks can be ordered. The large hotel bar is just a few steps from the convention area, which is also a free WiFi hot spot, and I am reliably informed that the bar staff make some cocktails! The restaurant offers an a la carte and evening carvery menu, the latter being one of the best in the city.
The bedrooms are remarkably bright, comfortable, fully air conditioned with double glazing & black out curtains. Find out more about the room facilities by clicking on this link: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/hotel/GLWRE/welcome
Whilst the hotel has good Access points, the main hotel lifts are too narrow to provide adequate manoeuvrability for medium to heavy duty scooters. Small pavement scooters and manual wheelchairs should have no difficulties. Please contact us if you have any concerns.
Very young children cannot be accommodated at this hotel but we will investigate other airport hotels for availability, which we will hopefully report on later.
Best of all, we have negotiated exclusive room rates: Twin/Double £70, Single £65, Family (sleeps 4) £85, Accessible £70 and suite £110. All rates are per night, inclusive of VAT & Breakfast. We encourage you to book early: this is a popular stopover hotel, so rooms are in high demand. A booking deposit of £25 (non-refundable) must be made, with the balance settled in full (the hotel will accept instalment payments) by 1st September 2010. All booking requests must be made through ALBACON.
Finally, small dogs & cats are allowed in the accommodation areas but restricted from public areas. Service Animals are excluded from this policy. We will try to negotiate access to the convention space for the benefit of any members who need to travel with their pet(s).
